Popcorn is a fun tasty snack that is often associated with going to the movie theater. Most of the time salt and butter is added to these treats but popcorn by itself has great health benefits. Popcorn is high in fiber and is a good source of polyphenol antioxidants which are linked to improving circulation and digestive health. It is also high in satiety which helps with appetite control. There is a long history of consuming popcorn in North America. In 1948, anthropologist Herbert Dick and botanist Earle Smith discovered popcorn in a deep bat cave that was carbon-dated to be about 5,600 years old. Native Americans have a rich documented history of consuming popcorn. In the 16th century, popcorn was incorporated in Aztec ceremonies and was an important food for them. Aztecs used popcorn to decorate ceremonial headdresses, necklaces and ornaments on their god statues. French explorers encountered the Iroquois tribe making popcorn when they came to the new world. As additional colonists came to North America, they enjoyed snacking on popcorn with molasses. They even ate it for breakfast with milk and sugar.  In 1893, Charles Cretors created a steam powered machine that could make popcorn and brought it to the Midway of Chicago’s Columbian Exposition. This was considered the first of the commercial popcorn machines. Since this machine was mobile, vendors were able to roam around the streets and at events. The creation of films followed and the two became a classic combination.

The Limoges Popcorn Box is designed like a traditional popcorn container and includes a porcelain popcorn. This would make a great gift for collectors of all ages!
