She had an artistic influence at the Louis XV’s French Royal Court where she promoted the arts and fashion. She helped to organize the Sevres porcelain factory which is still in existence today with its museum.

The Cottage ShopR is pleased to present the Limoges Marquise de Pompadour collection French hand painted Limoges porcelain boxes. Each one of these boxes is made by our selected museum artists in the city of Limoges, France. In some cases, commissioned sculptors create special white molds of porcelain- exclusive to the collection-. Each porcelain piece of this collection comes in an exquisite gift box with a certificate of authenticity. From Limoges, France.

Josephine Madeleine de Richelieu and I am the Great Grand Daughter of the Countess d' Aubervilliers from whom I may have inherited the passion for history and palaces. As a little girl born outside of Paris, one of my favorite pastimes was to visit and admire the big paintings and luxurious rooms of Versailles and the Loire Castles. I learned to discover the intricate charm of the style and beauty of those places that were so majestic in ornamental decor and at the same time so fresh and green in magnificent architectural gardens.

In that environment, I developed an early taste for the arts that soon became the center of my life thru painting, poetry and music combined with my historical interest for antique porcelain.

My Great Grand Mother was a woman of substance, of simple nobility who lived every moment to the greatest possible challenge. Very French and elegant on her looks, extremely artistic on her thoughts. I became closer to her on her later years and still remember our first trip to the city of Limoges during which we talked about a very influential lady from the Louis XV's court, the Marquise de Pompadour, a great patron of the arts and porcelain of her times.

The Marquise de Pompadour surrounded herself of the best artists and talents of her time. She embellished the Royal court of France and left us a legacy of elegance, renewed fashion, masterpieces in architecture and porcelain thru her patronage of the arts. In the porcelain field, she sponsored the Royal Factory La Reine as she convinced Louis XV to promote the production of the artistic porcelain of Limoges in small ateliers by master painters of Beaux Arts. She also organized and developed the production of the Manufacture Royale de Sevres. Her taste for a very special pink color took her name and has been called since then: the Rose Pompadour.

Our fascination to her legacy and her life through researching old archives of original 18th Century documents resulted in the creation of the Limoges Marquise de Pompadour TM collection. Each Limoges box of the Marquise de Pompadour TM collection is commissioned only to the best artistic painters of Limoges who are masters of their atelier and are honored to be counted among the few that take part in this collection. From the white porcelain paste to the finished box each and every stage is carefully controlled. In many cases, our Limoges boxes are molded by historical sculptors who feel the story in their hands by giving life to the centuries past. Our Limoges painters are the ancestors of the artists of the times of the Marquise de Pompadour and add their personal art transmitted from generation to generation. The last touch of each Limoges box is the antique brass hinging, done by hand like in the 18th Century with a carefully chosen clasp to match the art of the box. Each Marquise de Pompadour TM Limoges box is a piece of French history that cannot be compared to any other trinket box existing today. It has the special mark and taste of the Marquise de Pompadour and we should feel honored an pleased to be able to buy these Limoges boxes and antiques from the past to create a valuable museum into our homes.

In the United States, the Marquise de Pompadour Limoges boxes are in the homes of many serious and antique collectors. New Limoges boxes based on historical research as well as everyday themes are constantly created by our artists' team. We would like to invite you to discover our Limoges boxes and make your visit to our site a pleasant and memorable tour into the most elegant 18th Century palace.
